About Gneiss Works

A mission-driven company that publishes good writing by people who've lived a while — and gives half of it back.

Gneiss Works is a mission-driven LLC founded by Dick Wanner, an 85-year-old journalist with five decades covering Lancaster County.

Its first product is Gneiss People — a newsletter written entirely by contributors over 70. Roughly half of every subscription dollar goes to the Gneiss Fund, a giving vehicle on its way to becoming a 501(c)(3).

Gneiss Works believes that the best stories come from people who've lived long enough to have them, and that a business can do well by doing good.

The Founder

Dick Wanner spent 50 years as a journalist in Lancaster County — covering the stories that mattered, photographing the landscape, and learning that the most interesting people are often the ones who've been overlooked.

At 85, he started Gneiss Works to prove that experience is an asset, not a limitation — and that a publishing company can be built on generosity.

One good read every Saturday — and half of it gives back.
